Korpisalo makes 39 saves in Jackets' shootout loss

Beau Bennett scored the only goal of the game in the third round of the shootout and Jeff Zatkoff made 23 saves in the Pittsburgh Penguins' win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
Blue Jackets goalie Joonas Korpisalo, a third-round pick (No. 62) at the 2012 NHL Draft, played the entire game and made 39 saves.
Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry relieved Zatkoff at the start of the third period and made seven saves. He denied Oliver BjorkstrandAlexander Wennberg and Ryan Murray in the shootout.
Pittsburgh was 0-for-5 on the power play; Columbus was 0-for-4.
Other notes from tonight's game (via Rob Mixer):
- Fans, coaches and players got their first look at 3-on-3 overtime tonight. This game was slated to be an experimental game, going to 3-on-3 regardless of the margin after regulation, but it turned out to needed anyway. Todd Richards' first trio over the boards was Wennberg at center, Cam Atkinson on the wing and Ryan Murray on the back end.
- That group nearly combined for a game-winner early in OT when a turnover helped Murray spring Atkinson on a semi-break, but Jarry stayed with him to make the save.
- Murray missed 70 regular season games in 2014-15 due to injury issues, but he was a horse tonight. He led all players with 26:02 TOI spread over 32 shifts, and he looked like a player born to make things happen with the extra ice in overtime.
Scott Hartnell awkwardly collided with a Penguins player in the first period while taking a shot attempt, and went to the bench in visible pain holding his arm and/or shoulder area. Hartnell returned in the second period and finished the game, which marked the debut of his line with Wennberg and Atkinson.
-The Blue Jackets and St. Louis Blues will play a pair of split-squad games tomorrow night at Nationwide Arena (7 p.m. ET) and Scottrade Center (8 p.m. ET).
